FORMULA RENAULT
The leap to ‘slicks and wings’ single-seater car racing from the world of karting is a major one and in
Formula Renault UK, the world’s foremost junior category, competition is fierce with a multitude of
nationalities all vying for the coveted title.
Its list of former champions reads like a who’s who of world motorsport, including McLaren's Formula
One test driver Pedro de la Rosa, ex-Williams F1 driver Antonio Pizzonia and 2004 Le Mans 24 Hours
winner Guy Smith. The most famous past title winners though are undoubtedly 2007 Formula One
World Champion Kimi Raikkonen and runner-up Lewis Hamilton.
From the above list, it’s clear to see the key role Formula Renault plays on the career ladder for young
drivers who aspire to one day race at the pinnacle of the sport as a fully-professional competitor.
Jeremy entered the Formula Renault UK Championship at the start of 2005 and while his maiden season was nothing if not character building by its very nature, he learned a host of valuable lessons which he later put into practice in the Winter Championship to great effect.
Having signed with race-winning outfit Team AKA for the four-round winter series, Jeremy soon started to fully develop his skills as a single-seater driver. During the second weekend of the campaign at Croft, he stunned the Formula Renault UK paddock by not only taking his maiden category pole position, but also achieving his first career victory in cars with a superb display.
At the beginning of the 2006 Formula Renault UK Championship, hopes were high for Jeremy to enjoy a highly rewarding season and this he did, taking four podiums en-route to finishing fifth overall in the standings. He was also named ELF/Atol Driver of the Day twice, became the deserving winner of the prestigious Donington Park Racing Association Club Cup and was also named a McLaren Autosport BRDC Award finalist.
Ahead of the 2007 season, Jeremy was also awarded BRDC 'Rising Star' status and then went on to take two race victories, three other podium results and one pole position on his way to fifth in the championship in what would be his final year of action in Formula Renault UK.
In September of 2007, Jeremy also had the opportunity to make his sportscar debut during the penultimate two rounds of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship at Knockhill in Scotland. As a prize for his involvement in the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award the previous year, Jeremy piloted the Autosport-backed 'VIP' car.
